Treasurer’s report: $836.45
Gary highlighted the past month’s minutes.
We
had a general discussions on vitex, buckwheat, clovers and
fertilizers.
Oak
can be used for hive parts but will warp. Poplar will warp
also. Cypress is the best wood for hive parts.
Gary demonstrated hive body building and assembly.
OJ
is now using 9/64” metal mesh.
Another general discussion on wax moths, hive beetles and
mites. Oxalic acid seems to be the best current control for
mites. Gary said that there is an improved hive beetle trap
but not yet on the market. Put hives in the sun to help
control hive beetles.
Bees like salt water. OJ will put seaweed in a bucket filled
with water.
Bees cells are angled down @ about 15 degrees.
Beekeepersworkshop on YouTube is a good resource for jig
making.
We
then had a meal of pizza and salads.
Our
next meeting will be 10/29 @ Lucy’s and OJ’s.
