Hives should already be split.  It is too late now to split hives unless you have something blooming.

OJ wants to have classes on hive building.  The front porch keeps the rain out of the hive.  Screen the vent holes to keep roaches and lizards out. He is no longer using the glass panel.  OJ described his hive construction.

Yuban clover is 5ft. tall.  Can be ordered from Turner Seed Co. in Breckenridge, TX.

Buckwheat can be bush hogged when the seeds turn brown. Disk in.

Gary recommends Bee Culture magazine for the information it contains.

Elmore Herman is now using 8 frames in his supers for easier uncapping.

The price of wax goes up in Nov. and Dec.  Millie Bee will buy your wax.

Keep count of frames extracted for a ratio to quarts of honey.

Put cappings out for the bees to clean up.

Best way to melt wax is with a solar melter.

A crock pot can be used to melt wax.  Put water in the bottom.

Bees naturally build 49 cell foundation.  The smaller cell helps to control mites.  49 cell foundation can be special ordered.

No treatment should be on hives with supers.

Oxalic acid works well for mite control.  Protective gear must be worn.

A fog with mineral oil can also be used to treat mites.  This can be done at any time, once a week for 6 weeks.

A good strong hive will control mites. 

A screen bottom board will be 15 – 20% effective for mite control.

Swifter non-scented cloths placed on top of frames help control hive beetles.  Can be purchased @ Dollar General.

CCD – virus associated with mites.  The hive will take most of the honey with them.  Bees leave holes in the capped brood cells.

To help control wax moths, keep the corners of solid bottom boards free of wax.
