Minutes for the Queen’s Castle Beekeepers Assoc.

New Bus iness
Mrs. Lucy Blount welcomed everyone.
Keith led in prayer.
Keith read the minutes from
last
month. We did receive the $100 deposit from
the -Sportsman
Expo.
Mrs. lucy talked about the booth they had at the
County Fair. She said they sold a
lot of honey there, and did not have much honey
inventory left. They have had
mint blooming, which is good for the bees.

Japanese Honeysuckle blooms in January.
Kiwi and white Dutch clover in February
Gallberry and Blueberry in March .
Vitex and Mint blooms in May, June and July until
frost.
Clover blooms in May and June.
Crepe Myrtle blooms in June.
Aster blooms in September.
Golden rod blooms
in
October.
Open face camellia and Japanese Honeysuckle and
turnip and mustard bloom in
December.
Also Mexican clover and red clover bloom in December.
Some clover blooms in the fall and winter.
You can put boric acid and lard on a heavy cardboard
"sign" and put on the
bottom of hive. This will help kill beetles.
You can also use 20 Mule Team Borax detergent and
shake around for roaches
and other bugs.
Steve Moore is to find out where we can find food
grade diatomaceous earth (this
can be used in place of l ime
on our bottom tray) and where
we can pick it up.
Mr. OJ said the blocks and
cement were there, and the new club
house
bathroom
was ready to be built. We need some block layers.
Roger Bemis, from Baldwin County, said he'd like to
see a new South County Bee
Association formed to meet a few times a year. This
would include the counties
south of Montgomery. We could meet at the Blount's or
possibly the Solon Dixon
Forestry Center.
He said there would be a workshop on Ma rch
8, 2014 at the PZK Hall Park,
Baldwin County, the Robertsdale Meeting.
There would also be a "Queen Raising" workshop on
March 29, 2014 at the public
library in Foley, Alabama.
The question was asked, "Why do we want to have a
South Alabama Beekeeper's
Association 7"
Some of the beekeepers didn't like the way the
President, Vice-President and
Secretary were elected in the Alabama State
Beekeeper's Association, the same
ones were elected
-
again.
They also
don't like to drive so far for meetings.
It was suggested we could have the first SABA meeting
in February 2014, and
make bee supplies, sugar and corn syrup available.
The following motions were passed and seconded:
That we did want to start a new South Alabama 's
Beekeeper's Association.
It would
be called The South Alabama
Beekeeper's Association.
The first
meeting would be on
February 15,2014 and we
would meet at OJ and Lucy Blount's home at 10:00 am.
The counties south of Montgomery would be included
and invited.
The following officers are: President - Robert Ardary
Vice-President - Jimmy Winters
Secretary - Vicky Barrow (temporary) with
Sharon Baglivo helping
Treasurer - Lucy Blount
Certain members are to e-mail and RSVP the
beekeeper's in the other counties.
check with the bee suppliers to see if they will be
able to come, and check on the
state 's
bylaws and make them work for us.
Motion carried and seconded
for the dues to be $10 per person.
Keith had sent a letter and photo about Mr. OJ for
Beekeeper of the Year, to the
State Beekeeper's Association and it was in this
month's Stinger.
Keith had Vitex plant seeds for anyone to take home.
